CNG Car Initiatives In India - HINDUSTAN MOTORS
The multi-billion-dollar CK Birla Group's automobile major Hindustan Motors� Ltd. (HM) launched a road show comprising its three CNG-powered vehicles from its 34-acre plant here today. The one-month-long event will cover important cities in Maharashtra and Gujarat and will return to Pithampur via Indore. The road show was flagged off by Mr. B C Mishra, General Manager, Corporate Finance. Also present at the launch ceremony were Mr. Ashish Garg, Head of Pithampur factory, and other company employees. The road show is part of the Kolkata-headquartered India�s oldest car company's sustained campaign to create awareness about its existing, upgraded and new vehicles both in the passenger and commercial segments. Launched in June 2011, HM�s road shows have, so far, received enthusiastic market response in West Bengal, Assam, Orissa, Bihar, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
The company showcased its diesel and petrol-powered Ambassador
, one-tonne payload commercial vehicle Winner 1.5 XD PLUS and the newly launched 800-kg payload carrier VEER and VEER LX. More promotional activities are in the pipeline. However, the road show launched here today comprises HM�s CNG vehicles only, targeting the relevant markets in Maharashtra and Gujarat. The convoy includes Ambassador Discovery which incorporates several new features, adding significantly to the iconic car�s existing comfort levels. It is accompanied by a Winner 1.8 CNG XD cargo vehicle. A special feature of the road show is an upcoming 9+1 seat commercial passenger vehicle which will be presented essentially as a customer clinic to gather buyer feedback. All the three vehicles are BS4 compliant. In an statement issued on the occasion, Mr. Manoj Jha, Managing Director, Hindustan Motors Ltd., stated, �Customer satisfaction and environmental care have been the driving factors for Hindustan Motors. We figure among the automobile industry's pioneers to have introduced vehicles using environment friendly fuels like CNG and LPG.
This road show is our humble contribution to sustainable development through a host of upgraded variants and new vehicles in the passenger and commercial segments. HM is all set to introduce more new vehicles and enhance choice for automobile customers. The road show shall cover Pune and Mumbai in Maharashtra. In Gujarat, it will pass through Vapi, Valsad, Daman, Silvassa, Nausari, Surat, Bharuch, Ankleshwar, Dahej, Vadodara, Anand, Kheda, Ahmedabad, Bhavnagar, Amreli, Junagarh, Porbandar, Jamnagar, Rajkot, Surendranagar, Mehsana, Pattan, Banaskantha, Himmatnagar, Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar etc. The convoy shall return to Pithampur after holding shows in Indore. Hindustan Motors apart from Ambassador also manufactures various other popular models in JV with Mitsubishi, these are Mitsubishi Pajero and Mitsubishi Outlander.
CNG Car Initiatives In India - FIAT

CNG Car Initiatives In India - CHEVROLET
Chevrolet India has launched the Aveo CNG in Indian market with a company backed Sequential Injection type CNG kit. Sequential Injection represents the most advanced level of evolution for what concerns the equipment of gas injection. In the sequential system the ECU calculates the opening times of the injectors for each cylinder and acts separately on each gas injector with highest precision.
CNG Car Initiatives In India - HYUNDAI
The new Santro is available in eight variants. They are XK Non AC, GL, GLS, GL LPG, GLS LPG, XK Non AC CNG, GL CNG and GLS CNG. CNG Car Initiatives In India - TOYOTA
The CNG variant of Toyota Innova is available with company fitted CNG kit but for this you have to pay some extra amount for the same. The three variants of Toyota Innova come with a petrol engine option which is powered by 2.0L, 1998cc, 1TR-FE, Gasoline, 4 Inline Cylinder petrol engine with EFI (Electronic Fuel Injection) that offers high engine performance. The EFI (Electronic Fuel Injection) technology makes Toyota Innova highly fuel efficient and offers a mileage of 8.3kmpl in city and 12.5kmpl on the highway.
The petrol variant of Toyota Innova is compatible with CNG. The CNG variant of Innova has a manual selector switch that enables the driver to easily switch from gasoline to CNG and vice versa. The CNG Innova has an on-board cylinder that has a capacity of approximately 12kg. The running cost on CNG
for the Innova is estimated to be around Rs 1.6/km or less depending on the driving situation.

In this trend, now a days, car buyers are drifting more towards Compressed Natural Gas(CNG). To grab the market share keeping the future perspective in mind, automobile companies are eyeing towards exploiting compressed natural gas (CNG) offering higher fuel efficiency and lower running cost.
Maruti Suzuki India CGM (Marketing) Shashank Srivastava said that they have already realized the forthcoming demand for the CNG car models so they have launched five petrol cars- Maruti Sx4, Alto, Maruti WagonR, Maruti Estilo and Maruti Eeco
-with CNG-integrated injectors in November last year and they all are doing well, however the hike in fuel prices have increased the recent demand leading to prolongated waiting periods.
Analysis of the market trend, customer demands and their drifting interest has compelled carmakers to revamp their renowned models such as Hyundai Accent, Chevrolet Aveo , Toyota Innova and Toyota Corolla, Tata Indica and Tata Indigo by loading them with cleanest and the cheapest fuel
, Compressed Natural Gas(CNG), is currently available only in Delhi, Mumbai, Agra and Gujarat.
Maruti India is eyeing to extend the CNG technology to its other models as well whereas General Motors India is planning to launch new models such as Chevrolet Beat based on the same concept. Even Hyundai Motor India, which is India's second largest carmaker is acknowledging increased demand and waiting periods for its CNG models. Hyundai director for marketing & sales Arvind Saxena himself revealed about the comparatively increased demand and waiting period for their CNG model viz Hyundai Accent.
Following statistics show a clear difference in price, running a petrol version of Maruti Sx4 cost about 4.40 per kilometre whereas a diesel version cost about 2.40 per kilometer however, a CNG version costs only 1.50 per km. Sale of CNG-fitted cars in NCR has jumped 43% over the last year to touch 4.5-lakh mark by May-end this year.Carmakers are also looking forward to the electric cars such as Mahindra Reva that has a running cost of around 50 paise per km however, due to the huge battery cost and lack of charging options, it failed to cater large market share. So no wonder, in coming years, CNG car models are going to dominate the auto market.
